The Lovatts Story
Lovatts Media Group is Australia and New Zealand’s leading crossword and puzzle company.
Established in 1978 by husband and wife team, James and Christine, Lovatts boast an impressive total of 20 regular crossword and puzzle publications, most of which rank among the top-selling titles in their category.
English-born nurse Christine first met fellow countryman James while she was working in Cairns, North Queensland. Within a couple of years they were married and settled in Sydney putting together Australia’s largest crossword, the mighty Colossus.
To this day Lovatts Colossus Crosswords remains their most popular title with thousands of regular readers keen to pit their wits against Christine’s fiendish clues.
Lovatts Publishing is still a family owned and operated business, with son Patrick now running the day-to-day operation. The magazines can be found in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland, and South Africa plus throughout Europe, Asia and the Pacific.
In Australia, Lovatts puzzles challenge readers of many top titles including Womans Day, Womens Weekly, TV Week, NW, and Super Food Ideas. And if you’re flying Qantas, you can tackle a Lovatts puzzle in their monthly in-flight magazine.
Christines Cryptic Crossword Collection has a loyal following and her expertise at compiling these challenging puzzles has earned her the title of ‘Cryptic Queen’. Her clues are clever with a delightful touch of humour. Read Christine’s profile on Wikipedia
Christine’s affection for her readers is evident in her personal Hello columns and in correspondence exchanged with her legion of fans. It is Christine’s ability to share with her readers a sense of belonging that makes the Lovatts brand less corporate and more family - a huge part of the company’s success.
In August 2007 Lovatts launched YouPlay.com, an online puzzles and games site to cater for the ever-growing interest in internet entertainment.
YouPlay.com is a fun, entertaining and educational place to play free quality online trivia quizzes, puzzles and games. You can chat with fellow puzzlers, challenge them to online contests, read blogs, create an avatar and lots more.
Over the years Lovatts has been proud to support many humanitarian and community organisations including Red Cross, Life. Be In It, World Vision, MS Readathon, the RSPCA and many more.
Lovatts is a company with great integrity - evident in its attitude to readers, employees and the community. Lovatts’ reputation as a caring and community-minded company is well earned. And it’s a reputation we will work hard to protect.
